I started using 184 mm cranks in June 2011 and have seen an improvement of 1 kmh from 9 to 10 kmh on the edge of the Gorolo (last of the nine hills). This is the result of a significant increase in acceleration and speed in the plains compared to my experience with traditional 170 mm cranks.

...and the research continues, thanks to the cooperative efforts and availability of many cyclists who have been testing Zencranks PAS: following the almost unnoticeable increase in performance experienced in February 2011 by Max Grazia, the small interchangeable arms have been modified optimizing performance in both group at high cadence and when pushing big gears.

A new configuration has been tested specific for endurance with a result of extreme fluidity at high cadence: ideal in races and training with the pedal set at 90° on the small interchangeable arm, while a 45* has been proven to be ideal for chrono (this accentuates the length of the lever when the foot is in the lower front circular trajectory of the pedal stroke. In Max Grazia's specific case with cranks of 184mm it gets to 188mm of effective lever and in the recovery up coming rear stroke we have a 174mm lever length. This new geometry lower torque that enhance the acceleration when seated with big chain rings, optimal in chrono (after turns and in uphills) as it helps to maintain a steady cadence.
